Large Plateau Root Bag
The Indigenous peoples of the Northwest Plateau handcrafted this root bag circa 1900. It is cylindrical, and we believe it is composed of twined cedar with reed and has a buckskin handle. It has several very faded stripes.
Approx 8" tall with a 7" diameter mouth. The base is defined and has a 6" diameter (20.3cm x 17.75cm x 15.25cm)
Antique condition with wear, please see photos for detail. It needs reshaping (first photos show basket filled with bubble wrap). The rim of the basket has some fraying and is missing in some places and there are some snags in the body of the basket. The colored stripes are very faded.
This item was identified as a c. 1900 Plateau root bag by area expert Arthur Erickson.
